Mimecast Plug-In for Outlook Overview

Mimecast Plug-In for Outlook Overview

Access Mimecast Plug-in for Outlook to gain access to your Mimecast services from inside Microsoft Outlook.

Mimecast Plug-in Features

  1. New Email: Compose a new email.
  2. Search: Search through Mimecast's Online Inbox that saves every active and deleted email from Outlook.
  3. Report Spam: Report the email if it is Spam or Phishing.
    1. Spam =  unsolicited and unwanted junk email sent out in bulk to a wholesale recipient list. Typically, spam is sent for commercial purposes. However, spam email can also contain a malicious attempt to gain access to your computer, so email security becomes an important defense.
    2. Phishing = a common type of cyber attack that everyone should learn about to protect themselves. Phishing attacks are fraudulent communications that appear to come from a reputable source. The goal is to trick the recipient into giving away sensitive data or to install malware in the form of spyware on the victim's system.
  4. Block Senders: Block receiving email from certain addresses or domains.
    1. Sender's Address
    2. Sender's Domain
  5. Managed Senders: View and manage your own list of addresses and domains in Mimecast for Outlook that are blocked, permitted, and automatically allowed. This is all achieved from your Managed Senders view. This view provides the functionality to:
    1. Filter entries
    2. Add entries
    3. Delete entries
  6. On Hold Messages: These hold messages placed there as a result of defined security policies defined by your administrator. They are designed to prevent unwanted messages from reaching your Inbox. However, you should always review on hold messages if an actual borrower's email is placed here.
  7. Online Inbox and Online Sent Items:
    1. Items sent and/or received over the last 30 days. Items older than this may be found using an archive search.
    2. The last 100 messages (by default) displayed in reverse date order.
    3. The most recently received email displayed first. To access more messages, scroll to the bottom of the list, and more items will be retrieved.
  8. Activate Continuity: when email servers are down, you can send emails and receive emails though Mimecast. Warning: Only activate if advised from IT.
    1. During continuity mode, Microsoft Outlook is placed into offline mode, and all messages are sent to and from Mimecast rather than your email server. Turning off continuity mode ensures all messages are sent to and from your email server. Once you have manually entered continuity mode, you cannot manually exit continuity mode for ten minutes, and the options listed below are unavailable. This short period allows Mimecast to perform necessary checks following the completion of a Continuity Event.

  9. Account Settings: View Domain Authentication is Active and change Preferences for color themes and reading pane.
  10. Help: View user guides and help articles from Mimecast's Community Knowledge Base.
  11. Feedback: Contact Support, Ask a Question, Share an Idea or Send Technical Information to Mimecast Support.
  12. About Mimecast: View your version of Mimecast for Outlook and Privacy Policy.
